The best MyGate alternative for maintenance billing depends on whether you want to replace MyGate or only add a tool for collecting dues, because the two jobs are different. MyGate and apps like it run the gate, the visitors and the community. A focused billing app such as Aangan runs the money side: bills, reminders, UPI payments, receipts and the ledger. This guide shows how to choose, including when staying with MyGate is the right call.
Aangan is built by Taheri Developers, so read this as a vendor's view. To keep it fair, we describe MyGate only from its own website, we label its statements as MyGate's claims, and we say where MyGate is the better fit. The Aangan details come from Aangan's own comparison page, which was last checked on 10 October 2026, and from the MyGate pages in the sources list.
Two different jobs: running the gate and collecting dues
MyGate describes itself as an all-in-one society management system covering accounting, billing, compliance, gate security and vendor tracking. Its accounting page lists monthly bills with adjustments, arrears and interest, member-wise ledgers, income-expense statements, balance sheets and collection summaries, plus GST-ready invoices and TDS tracking for vendor payments. It also says accounting connects with visitor management. These are MyGate's own claims, and we have not tested them.
That accounting page does not publish a price. The only next step it offers is to book a demo, so you will need a quote from MyGate before you can compare costs. Aangan's comparison page makes the same point about community apps in general: pricing varies by vendor and society size, so ask for a written per-flat quote.
A focused maintenance app does one job. Aangan collects maintenance through bills, reminders, payments, receipts and a ledger. It does not manage the gate or visitors, and its comparison page says that is on purpose.
Which kind of app fits your society
Start with what hurts today. The list below sets the two kinds of app side by side. It is a decision aid, not a ranking of every product, and the MyGate points come from its own pages.
- Gate security and visitors. An all-in-one community app: this is its core job. Aangan: not included, by design.
- Maintenance bills and reminders. All-in-one: MyGate lists recurring billing and reminders. Aangan: bills on the 1st and WhatsApp reminders before and after the due date.
- How residents pay. All-in-one: MyGate's accounting page mentions tracking online payment collection but does not describe how residents pay, so ask in the demo. Aangan: a WhatsApp link opens any UPI app, with no app to install.
- Accounting depth. All-in-one: MyGate lists balance sheets, GST-ready invoices and TDS tracking. Aangan: ledger, dues, receipts and an exportable ledger for the auditor. If you need more than that, confirm it before you commit.
- Price. All-in-one: not published on MyGate's accounting page, so ask for a written quote. Aangan: free up to 20 flats, then ₹12 per flat per month for each flat above 20.
- Best for. All-in-one: larger gated complexes that want security and accounts in one app. Aangan: societies that only need maintenance collected.
When MyGate is the right choice
If your society has a staffed gate, heavy visitor and delivery traffic, and a committee that wants one login for security and accounts, a full community app is the better fit. Replacing it with a billing tool would leave the gate unmanaged. If MyGate already handles your accounts to your auditor's satisfaction, there is no reason to switch for its own sake. The case for a focused app is narrower: you need maintenance collected well, and you do not want to pay for, or train guards on, the rest.
What to confirm with MyGate before you decide
Because MyGate's accounting page is light on specifics, treat the demo as the real source. Ask for the per-flat price in writing, and ask whether the quote covers accounting or only the gate module. Ask how a resident actually pays a maintenance bill, whether any convenience fee applies, and whether the money lands directly in the society's bank account. Ask to see the GST-ready invoices and TDS tracking it lists, using one of your own vendor bills. Finally, ask what happens to your records if you leave. A good vendor answers each of these on a screen in a few minutes, and the answers tell you more than any feature list.
When Aangan is a MyGate alternative, and when it works alongside it
Aangan's comparison page says a society can keep its gate app and use Aangan only for the money. For many societies that is the practical answer: the gate on one tool, the dues on another. The trade-off is that resident data lives in two places, so agree who maintains the flat list. If you want to drop the gate app altogether, Aangan will not replace it.
Aangan makes sense on its own when the treasurer chases dues over WhatsApp, UPI credits arrive with no flat number, and residents resist installing yet another app. It is also a reasonable fit for a smaller society that finds a large community platform heavier than it needs. In each of those cases the problem is collection and record-keeping, not the gate, and a tool built only for that job is easier for a volunteer committee to learn, hand over and audit.
A four-step way to decide
- List your three worst monthly problems. Use real examples, such as a payment nobody can place or a reminder nobody sent.
- Tag each one as gate, community or money. Visitor passes and guard registers are gate problems. Notices and complaints are community problems. Bills, dues and receipts are money problems.
- Pick the tool by the tags. Mostly money means a focused billing app is enough. A mix of gate and money means an all-in-one app, or two tools side by side.
- Test with your own flat list. Ask any vendor to show one month of your real flats, dues and payments, not a sample society.
What Aangan covers
Everything below is as described on tryaangan.in. Features and plans can change, so confirm them on the site before you decide.
Billing and reminders
- Monthly bills. Bills go out on the 1st, with each flat's amount worked out from its area and a one-tap pay link.
- Automation. On the Society plan, bills, late fees and reports can run automatically.
- WhatsApp reminders. Three days before the due date, on the due day, seven days after with the late fee, and a committee escalation at 30 days.
- Late fees by your bye-laws. Fees follow the rules your society sets. Check your registered bye-laws and state rules before you configure a rate.
Payments and receipts
- UPI from any app. Residents tap the WhatsApp link and pay with Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm or their bank app. The money goes straight to the society's bank account, and Aangan charges no convenience fee on UPI.
- Payments that match themselves. When a payment arrives without a flat number, Aangan suggests a match from the payer's name and the amount.
- Signed WhatsApp receipts. A payment is marked paid when the bank confirms it, and a signed PDF receipt goes out on WhatsApp.
- Owners and tenants. Tenants can pay, and owners can see the receipts.
Records and reporting
- Snap-a-bill. A photo of a vendor bill or receipt fills in the vendor, amount and date.
- Flat view. A visual grid shows each flat's payment status at a glance.
- Monthly report. On the 5th, each flat gets a one-page report of income and expenses with supporting bills.
- Ledger and auditor export. Dues, receipts and the full ledger can be exported for your auditor.
Getting started
- Self sign-up. Sign up with an email, mobile number and society name, and you become the admin. Invite the treasurer and staff, add flats by hand or from Excel, and Aangan hosts and maintains the software.
- One-time licence. Instead of a monthly bill you can pay once. Aangan sets up your flats and moves your Excel register, and the price is quoted after you share your society's size.
What a month looks like
Put together, the monthly rhythm in Aangan is short. Bills go out on the 1st with a pay link. Reminders follow the due-date schedule for flats that have not paid. Payments are marked paid when the bank confirms them, receipts reach residents on WhatsApp, and credits with no flat number are suggested for a match. On the 5th every flat receives the income and expense report. The treasurer's job shrinks from chasing and matching to checking the flat view and confirming the doubtful cases. That is the whole pitch, and it is only worth it if collection is where your committee loses time.
Six questions to ask any society app before you sign
Aangan's comparison page lists these six. They are worth asking of MyGate, NoBrokerHood, Aangan or anyone else, and you should expect the answer on a screen, not in a brochure.
- Is the per-flat price published? If not, get it in writing.
- Do residents pay a UPI convenience fee? Small fees add up across hundreds of flats.
- Does the money settle directly into the society's bank account? It should not sit with a third party first.
- Can the full ledger be exported for the auditor? Ask to see the export, not just hear about it.
- Must residents install an app to pay? Every extra install step slows collection from older residents and tenants.
- If you leave, do you keep your records? Ask in what format they come out.
What Aangan costs per flat
The Starter plan is free for up to 20 flats and includes the ledger, dues and receipts, UPI pay links and 100 WhatsApp receipts a month. The Society plan is ₹12 per flat per month for each flat above 20, with unlimited WhatsApp receipts and reminders. A 48-flat society pays ₹336 a month, which is 28 flats at ₹12. Managers running several societies pay ₹8 per flat per month above the first 20 flats of each society. The site lists no setup fee. Check current billing terms on the pricing page before you decide, and get MyGate's written quote for a like-for-like comparison.
Where a custom build comes in
Some federations, builders and multi-building societies have charge structures, ERP links or Tally set-ups that no ready product holds. Taheri Developers, which builds Aangan, also does custom software development and lists its ready products. If your rules are unusual, book a consultation and we will say honestly whether a ready product or a custom build fits.
Next step
Decide first whether you are replacing the gate app or only fixing the money side. If it is the money side, try Aangan's free plan for up to 20 flats at tryaangan.in, and test it with your own flat list. If you need gate security too, keep MyGate and ask it for a written quote. Either way, tell us what your society needs and we will answer plainly.

Is there a free alternative to MyGate for maintenance billing?
Aangan is free for societies of up to 20 flats. The Starter plan covers the ledger, dues and receipts, UPI pay links and 100 WhatsApp receipts a month. It does not do gate or visitor management. Above 20 flats, the Society plan is ₹12 per flat per month for each extra flat.
Does Aangan do visitor or gate management?
No. Aangan collects maintenance and leaves out gate and visitor management on purpose, according to its comparison page. If your society needs visitor passes, delivery approvals or guard tools, keep a gate app such as MyGate for that job and use Aangan only for bills, payments and receipts.
Can a society use MyGate and Aangan together?
Aangan's comparison page says a society can keep a gate app and use Aangan only for money. The practical catch is that resident data then lives in two places, so decide who maintains the flat list. Aangan says it is not affiliated with MyGate, so do not expect a built-in link.
Do residents need to install an app to pay maintenance with Aangan?
No. Residents open a payment link sent on WhatsApp and pay through any UPI app, such as Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm or their bank's app. There is no app to install and no account to create, and the money goes straight to the society's own bank account.
How much does Aangan cost for a 48-flat society?
On the Society plan, a 48-flat society pays ₹336 a month. The first 20 flats are free, and the other 28 cost ₹12 each per month. The site lists no setup fee and no UPI convenience fee. Check current billing terms on the pricing page before you decide.
